Privacy policy
Version 3 · updated 29 October 2026 · Freeeme
Freeeme helps Indian families see the day they will be debt-free. Your money is private. We keep only what the app needs, never sell it, and never show loan ads. This policy follows India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025.
What we keep
- The loans you add: type, lender, a name or nickname, amount, EMI, how long it runs, when it started, and which months you ticked as paid.
- Your family plan, if you invite someone or join one.
- Money jars for yearly bills: what each jar is for, the bill amount, the month it is due, and what you have put aside. Jars are always private to you and never shared with your family. Freeeme only keeps count; the money stays in your own bank account.
- The dreams you pick, and a letter to your future self, if you write one.
- Your sign-in email and name, only if you choose to sign in with Google or Apple.
- A health checkup, if you take one: your take-home pay and other income, monthly living costs, savings you can reach in a week, how many people depend on you, whether you have health cover and term cover (yes or no), the loans in the checkup, and the result (score and plan). It is worked out by plain maths, not by AI. Checkups are always private to you and never shared with your family.
- Your privacy choices, and a nominee if you add one.
- Anonymous usage counts, only if you say yes.
- If you write to us from the Contact page on our website: your name, email, the topic and your message, so we can reply. Kept for up to 12 months, then deleted.
SMS: freeeme never reads your SMS inbox and never asks for SMS permission, on iPhone or Android. To save typing, you can choose to paste a bank, card or pay-later SMS into the app, or share it to freeeme from your messages app. That one message is read on your phone only to fill in the loan details for you to check. We keep only the loan details you save, never the message itself, and nothing from it is sent to our servers or anyone else.
Reminders: if you turn them on, reminders never show a lender, loan name or amount on your lock screen. Marking an EMI as paid from a reminder only updates your own plan.
Health checkup on the website: you can take it without an account; then your answers stay only in that browser tab and nothing is kept once you close it. If you sign in with Google, your checkup is saved to your own account (Mumbai, India), the same as in the app, and you can download or delete it. Your sign-in is held in that browser tab until you close it, and if you sign in after taking the checkup, your answers wait in the tab for the moment it takes to return from Google, then are removed. The checkup page has no analytics.
We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone or location, and we never ask for a relative's phone number or address.
Why
Only to calculate your debt-free date, show your score and plan if you take a health checkup, remind you before EMIs if you say yes, let your family see the same plan if you invite them, and, if you say yes, understand which parts of the app are used. Each optional use is a separate choice, off until you turn it on.
Where it lives and who handles it
On your phone, encrypted. If you sign in or share a family plan, also on our servers in Mumbai, India, encrypted. Loans you keep as "Only me" and your letter are seen only by you.
- Supabase — stores the plan and sign-in (Mumbai, India).
- Expo — delivers reminders; it gets only a device token and generic text such as "Your EMI is due tomorrow" (United States).
- Google / Apple — confirm who you are, only if you sign in with them.
- Vercel — hosts our website. On the website pages (not the health checkup), Vercel Web Analytics counts visits and which pages are viewed, with no cookies and nothing that identifies you (United States).
How long
Until you delete it. If an account is not used for 2 years, we warn you at least 48 hours before (we aim for 7 days) and then delete it. Anonymous usage counts are kept for 13 months. Security logs are kept for at least one year.
Your rights
From Menu → Your data & privacy in the app you can: read this notice, change any choice in one tap, see what we hold and download a copy, correct any loan, name a nominee who can act for you if you can't, raise a concern, and delete everything. Deleting removes your data from our servers too; if your family plan has other people, the loans you shared stay with them.
Families
Nobody can add another adult to a plan: each person joins with a code on their own phone. Loans are "Only me" until their owner shares them. Anyone can leave a family plan at any time, and the others stop seeing their data. Money jars and health checkups are never shared with the family.
Children
Freeeme is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it.
Security
We never ask for your net-banking, card or UPI passwords, and we never connect to your bank. Encryption on the phone and on our servers, encrypted connections only, an optional app lock, strict access rules so families see only their own plan, and a log of every staff access.
Complaints
Write to our Grievance Officer at hello@freeeme.com, or use "Raise a concern" in the app. We reply within 7 days, and always within 90 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will show you the new version and ask again before anything changes.
